9th Street construction project update The Kalamazoo County Road Commission will close the 9th Street and KL Avenue intersection for reconstruction starting on July 18 with closure scheduled to remain in place through July 29. Motorists on 9th Street and KL Avenue are advised to detour to Stadium Drive to M-43 to 8th Street. [ to read more, click here ] 39th Street road closure 39th Street will be closed for approximately six weeks due to a collapsed culvert that has caused the road to sink. Residents are encouraged to seek alternate routes. [ to read more, click here ] 5th Street Bridge closing 5th Street between D Avenue and DE Avenue, at Sand Creek Bridge in Alamo Township, has been closed because of the severe deterioration of the bridge. The previously weight-restricted bridge is now unsafe for vehicular traffic. [ to read more, click here ] Mosel Avenue reconstruction project update Starting on Tuesday, May 27, Mosel Avenue between Pitcher St. and Burdick St. in Kalamazoo Township will be closed at the Norfolk Southern Railroad crossing. [ to read more, click here ] 9th Street construction update The Kalamazoo County Road Commission construction project on 9th Street from Meridian Drive to KL Avenue continues to be closed to through traffic. [ to read more, click here ] Mosel project begins On Monday May 12, construction work on Mosel Avenue from N. Westnedge Avenue to the Kalamazoo River Bridge will begin with work to include replacement of the existing drainage system, pulverizing the existing roadway, placement of new concrete curb and gutter, and Hot Mix Asphalt surfacing. One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction. [ to read more, click here ] VW Avenue project begins May 2 On Friday, May 2, roadway construction work will begin on VW Avenue from east of 14th Street to 18th Street in Schoolcraft Township. [ to read more, click here ] New 11th Street signals activated New traffic signals at 11th Street at KL Avenue and 11th Street at W. Michigan will be activated today, April 24. The design and funding of the signals was a joint effort of the Kalamazoo County Road Commission, Amtrak, and the Michigan Department of Transportation. [ to read more, click here ] 33rd Street closure update Repairs to 33rd Street from S Avenue to TS Avenue are continuing with the roadway expected to be closed until April 17 to address water over the road and culvert replacement. [ to read more, click here ] Traffic Engineer The Traffic Engineer collects and analyses traffic flow data and recommends improvements to County roads and traffic control devises to ensure the safe and efficient flow of traffic on County local roads. [ to read more, click here ] Clearing snow from driveways In response to the recent snow fall, the Kalamazoo County Road Commission would like to remind property owners that state law prohibits the plowing or shoveling of snow, ice or slush onto or across roadways or highways, as it can present a serious traffic hazard. In addition, snow must not be piled in such a way as to obstruct motorists’ vision. [ to read more, click here ] State awards funds for two more Kalamazoo County road projects The Kalamazoo County Road Commission has received notice that two additional road projects have been selected and will receive $540,000 in funding from Governor Granholm's "Local Jobs Today" program. The award is part of an $80 million grant by the state to help Michigan cities and counties obtain more than $320 million in matching federal transportation dollars.
